Armenia is prepared to defend its territorial integrity using all available means, both diplomatic and otherwise. Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan made this statement during a press briefing following a government meeting, in response to a journalist’s question about potential actions if the threats from Azerbaijan’s president materialize.
Addressing Baku’s claims that Armenia continues to arm itself despite promoting a peace agenda, Kostanyan stated that this is Armenia’s sovereign right, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
"Armenia exercises its sovereign right and develops its defense capabilities. We have no intention of launching offensive actions against any of our neighbors. Regarding the ongoing arms race in the region, Armenia has proposed to Azerbaijan the establishment of a mutual arms control mechanism, and this proposal remains valid," Kostanyan stated.
He also noted that Armenia is still awaiting Azerbaijan’s response to its proposals regarding the peace treaty.
"We hope to receive a reply soon to allow the process to continue. Armenia remains committed to constructive engagement in the negotiations," Kostanyan added.
On December 4, 2024, during a parliamentary Q&A session, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that 90% of the provisions of the draft peace treaty with Azerbaijan had been agreed upon. On December 5, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated in Malta that the parties had reached an agreement on the preamble and 15 out of 17 articles of the treaty.
