Saudi Arabia open to hosting Trump-Putin meeting

Saudi Arabia has endorsed the idea of holding a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Riyadh, according to a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry on Feb 14.

The announcement followed Trump's separate phone conversations with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump first called Putin on Feb. 12, later stating that he and the Russian leader could meet in Saudi Arabia.

"The Kingdom (of Saudi Arabia) expresses its welcome to hosting the summit in Saudi Arabia, and reaffirms its ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine," the ministry stated.

Saudi Arabia previously hosted an international summit focused on Ukraine's peace formula in August 2023. The country has also played a significant role in mediating prisoner exchanges involving Russia.
