Turkey pushes for “Zangezur corridor”

Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, has stated that Ankara is determined to implement the so-called Zangezur corridor project. He made this statement during a speech at Gazi University in Ankara.

He emphasized that this route would become a key link in the strategic supply chain between China and Europe, according to Minval.az .

As reported by Azertag, the minister noted that Turkey continues to actively invest in the development of logistics and transport infrastructure.

"Today, we aim to make the Zangezur corridor part of the Middle Corridor. This will strengthen Turkey’s practical ties with the Turkic world," Uraloğlu stated.

Additionally, he addressed another major initiative, the Development Road, which is designed to connect the Persian Gulf to the European Union through Turkey.

"The design phase of this route, which passes through Iraq, has been completed. We have now moved on to the implementation stage. The operation of this corridor will bring significant benefits to Turkey," the minister noted.

At the end of his speech, the transport minister also announced plans to construct a new highway between Ankara and Istanbul.

On January 31, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a press conference that Armenia has made clear proposals to Azerbaijan regarding the unblocking of regional communication routes and is awaiting a response. According to him, the most affordable and realistic option is the Meghri railway, connecting Azerbaijan to Nakhijevan and vice versa. He also suggested a railway route from Yeraskh through Nakhijevan to Meghri and back.
