The crash occurred in Omdurman, located across the river from the capital, Khartoum. Both military personnel and civilians were among the casualties. "Search efforts are still ongoing to find the remaining martyrs under the rubble," the Health Ministry stated according to DW. Since April 2023, Sudan’s army has been engaged in a war against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) after tensions erupted between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy, RSF commander Mohamed Hamadan Daglo. The conflict has inflicted severe damage on Khartoum and numerous other cities, with at least 150,000 people killed, mostly civilians. Observers believe the true number of casualties could be significantly higher. More than 10 million people have been forced to flee their homes due to the fighting.
