Lyon hosts conference on Armenian refugee support

PanARMENIAN.Net - French Ambassador to Armenia Olivier Decottignies is participating in the second conference titled "Mobilization for Armenia," held in Lyon in support of refugees from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. The ambassador shared this information on X.

The event was organized at the invitation of the French Senate and Lyon’s municipal government.

"The state, local authorities, civil society, and diaspora organizations stand in solidarity with refugees from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh," reads the statement.

On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack on Artsakh, subjecting the entire region to heavy shelling. The next day, on September 20, Artsakh's authorities agreed to a ceasefire proposal from the Russian peacekeeping mission, accepting Baku's terms, including the disarmament of the Defense Army and the dissolution of the Republic of Artsakh. From September 24, a mass displacement of Artsakh Armenians began, with over 100,000 forcibly relocated to Armenia. Reports indicate that only about 20 Armenians remain in Artsakh. On September 28, Artsakh President Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree on the republic's dissolution, which took effect on January 1, 2024.
