Revised anthem text adopted, opposition abstains from vote

The National Assembly approved the bill on amending Armenia’s national anthem with 64 votes in favor and 5 against, with no abstentions.

According to the changes, the anthem’s final stanza will be moved to the second position, while the second and third stanzas will now become the third and fourth, respectively: "Look at it in three colors, one sacred sign, let it wave against the enemy, may Armenia always prosper."

The Armenia faction did not participate in the vote. Its leader, Seyran Ohanyan, stated that they would propose further amendments in the future, Sputnik Armenia reported.

The bill was authored by Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan and ruling Civil Contract MPs Sisak Gabrielyan and Taguhi Ghazaryan.

According to ruling party lawmakers, Armenia’s national anthem, as a key state symbol, must adhere to clear standards, including text, duration, music, rhythm, and a unified short version of 25-30 seconds.

Additionally, the anthem will start and end with references to Armenia. Once the law comes into force, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports will publish the official version on the government’s website.

An official recording of the anthem will also be made available in several formats, including a cappella and orchestral versions.
