Armenia's third President, Serzh Sargsyan, has been presented with new charges related to the alienation of lands on Isakov Avenue. As a preventive measure, a travel ban has been imposed on Sargsyan. This information was reported by the Prosecutor's Office, according to Pastinfo.
Specifically, according to the case under investigation by the Investigative Committee, an 11-hectare area on the balance sheet of the Ministry of Defense was alienated in 2005-2006, during Sargsyan's tenure as Defense Minister. The case materials indicate that the lands were sold at significantly lower than market value through direct sale.
Separate proceedings have been initiated for Vachagan Ghazaryan and the former head of the Ministry of Defense's Capital Construction and Troop Accommodation Department, Armen Sargsyan. Their cases are already undergoing substantive examination in court.
The Investigative Committee accuses Serzh Sargsyan of eight counts of large-scale embezzlement, two counts of large-scale money laundering, and three counts of aiding these actions.
Earlier, Sargsyan's attorney, Amram Makinyan, labeled the charges as absurd. He also expressed concern, stating that a new calamity threatens the country, as the criminal prosecution against the third president is being carried out on the eve of these dangers.
