Journalists from Turkey, attending a three-day media tour initiated and funded by the Public Relations and Information Center of the Armenian Prime Minister’s Office, visited the Margara border checkpoint.
Media representatives examined the technical capabilities of the renovated checkpoint. It was noted that the checkpoint is fully ready for operation, according to Armenpress.
Among the journalists was Lucien Köpar, a correspondent for the Turkish-Armenian newspaper Agos, who spoke with Orbeli Center expert Armen Petrosyan. In an article published by Agos, Petrosyan provided details about the renovation process.
"Representatives of Turkey and Armenia held numerous meetings over an extended period. The progress achieved by both sides was positive. Following this, Armenia initiated renovation work on the Margara border checkpoint, a process that lasted a year. The road leading to the checkpoint from the Armenian side was also renovated. The checkpoint was ready by 2023. On February 6, after the earthquakes in Turkey, it was temporarily opened for humanitarian aid and freight transport by mutual agreement. This demonstrated that the checkpoint can operate at full capacity," Petrosyan stated.
Earlier, the Public Relations and Information Center of the Armenian Prime Minister’s Office announced that the media tour was organized to better inform the Turkish public about Armenia’s stance on regional peace and Armenian-Turkish relations. The tour was not only initiated but also fully funded by the center.
