Russian MFA: agreement on Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty vital

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia has positively assessed the conclusion of negotiations on the draft peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

"We support this important step towards the full and comprehensive normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, as stipulated by the trilateral agreements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia in 2020–2022," her statement read, according to Sputnik Armenia.

Moscow is ready to continue assisting in advancing the peace process and resolving outstanding issues between Baku and Yerevan. Key priorities include the signing of a peace agreement, the unblocking of transport links, border delimitation, and humanitarian issues. The format and level of Russia’s involvement will be determined based on the wishes of the parties.

Maria Zakharova also emphasized that Russian Foreign Minister's special representative for the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement, Igor Khovayev, is ready to visit Baku and Yerevan for consultations.

"We reaffirm our offer to provide a Russian platform for negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia on all normalization issues, as well as for signing the peace treaty," Zakharova added.

It should be recalled that on March 13, it was announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan had completed the coordination of the peace treaty text. The final agreed points include a commitment by both sides not to deploy third-country forces on their shared border and a mutual waiver of claims in international courts.
