Turkey set to begin building its part of so-called 'Zangezur Corridor'

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, has announced that in the coming months, Turkey will commence construction of the 224-kilometer section of the so-called 'Zangezur Corridor' within its territory. The statement was made at Istanbul Technical University, Aravot reported, citing Milliyet.

“The 'Zangezur Corridor' will start from Azerbaijan, pass through either Armenia or Iran, then continue via Nakhchivan, Dilucu, and Kars, eventually connecting to the Baku-Tbilisi railway. In a way, this corridor will also integrate with Turkey’s railway network. Construction works on the Azerbaijani side are ongoing,” he stated.

The project remains a contentious issue, as Azerbaijan demands an unrestricted land connection to Nakhijevan through Armenia’s Syunik region, bypassing Armenian customs and border controls. Yerevan insists that any transit routes must operate under Armenian sovereignty.
