Building for fallen soldiers’ families listed for sale

A building at 110/1 Muratsan Street, primarily housing families of fallen soldiers, has been put up for auction.

Mothers and widows of the deceased gathered at the office of Margarita Khachatryan, president of the "Soldier’s Mother" NGO, to voice their concerns, Aysor.am reports.

Residents are involved in a legal process, but they claim the State Property Management Committee is pressuring them by cutting off the electricity supply to the building.

"They say, ‘Why did you bring this up? Do people even live here to complain about electricity issues?’" Margarita Khachatryan stated.

According to her, the building was removed from the Ministry of Defense’s balance sheet and transferred to the State Property Committee, which then decided to auction it off.

"The coordinating council did not settle in this area on its own. The Ministry of Defense assigned us this location, along with 78 NGOs, and issued an order that department heads should assist the coordinating council in carrying out various programs in the military, including cultural and social initiatives. These NGOs have worked with us from base to base, from position to position," she explained.

Khachatryan added that her NGO no longer has the necessary authorization to continue its activities.

"They came and told me, ‘Mrs. Margarita, we’re evicting you from the building.’ The police arrived, saying they had an eviction order from the Ministry of State Property, which claimed they were merely executing an order," she emphasized.

The president of the "Soldier" Public Council stated they were forced to take legal action.

"But there’s still no court decision, yet they’ve already cut off the electricity. They tell us to vacate the building or buy it ourselves, suggesting we collect 400 million drams. How can an NGO afford that? Most of the residents are families of fallen soldiers—they didn’t come here by choice," he said.
