Media expert: Signal messenger under attack, likely from Baku

Media expert Samvel Martirosyan has reported that Signal messenger is under attack, likely orchestrated by a state-affiliated entity with clearly hostile intent. According to some users, the intrusion appears to originate from Baku.

He cautioned the public not to panic and not to respond to suspicious messages that appear to come from Signal support.

“Warning. There is an ongoing attack on Signal messenger. Judging by the targets, it’s likely the work of a state agency—clearly a hostile one.

There aren’t many countries capable of this, so you can probably guess. A message comes from Signal, pretending to be from their support team. It tries to scare users by claiming that malicious actors are attempting to hack their account. In some cases, the login attempt is reported to come from Baku. The idea is to make people panic and engage. Then the attackers try to take over the account. What to do:

  • Do not panic
  • Do not respond
  • Activate two-step verification. Go to Settings >> Account >> Registration Lock. Set a PIN code and never share it with anyone—not even your mother-in-law. And don’t forget it,” the post reads.
