EU welcomes temporary opening of Margara-Alican crossing![]() March 24, 2025 - 17:44 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The European Union has welcomed the temporary opening of the Margara-Alican border crossing between Armenia and Turkey. The statement was issued by Anita Hipper, the lead spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS). “This gesture of goodwill not only supports those in need in Syria, but also underscores the importance of bilateral dialogue and contributes to efforts aimed at the full normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey,” the statement said. The Margara bridge—closed for 32 years between Armenia and Turkey—was reopened on March 21 for ten days to allow the transfer of humanitarian aid to Syria. A similar move took place in 2023, when Armenia sent 100 tons of aid to Turkey through the Margara bridge. Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan stated that the logistics for delivering the aid to Syria by land were discussed and coordinated with Turkey through existing diplomatic channels.
