UEFA may sanction Georgia after stadium incident![]() March 24, 2025 - 17:51 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - UEFA may disqualify Tbilisi’s Dinamo Stadium from hosting matches after Georgian fans behaved disrespectfully toward Armenian supporters during a Nations League playoff match, reports Armenpress. If UEFA imposes disciplinary action for the misconduct, Georgia’s upcoming September match against Turkey may be played behind closed doors. The second-leg playoff, where Armenia’s national team played away against Georgia, ended in a 6-1 victory for the hosts. After the match, some Georgian fans stormed the pitch, rushed toward the Armenian supporters’ section, and hurled plastic and metal containers at them. Following the incident, President of the Georgian Football Federation Levan Kobiashvili addressed the situation, according to Auroranews.am . “Thank you to our loyal fans who created an incredible atmosphere at Dinamo Arena throughout the game. Your tremendous support was felt in the stadium and greatly inspired the team. I want to express my gratitude for that once again. However, I must also highlight the incident that occurred after the match when a small number of spectators invaded the pitch, causing an unpleasant situation both on the field and near the visiting team’s stands. Such behavior towards the guest team’s supporters is unacceptable. These absolutely impermissible actions offended not only the visiting fans but also denied our national team the opportunity to celebrate the victory with its devoted supporters. This conduct harms football and tarnishes our country’s international image. It could result in UEFA sanctions that would negatively impact our national team and Georgian football fans. Thanks to the visiting team and their supporters, who created a friendly atmosphere both in Tbilisi and Yerevan. Special thanks to the President of the Football Federation of Armenia and our partners for the high-level hospitality. The strong ties between the two countries are also reflected in our joint bid to host one of the world’s most prestigious tournaments. I hope Georgia and Armenia will co-host the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2029. Football unites us and brings success. Special thanks to every member of our national team, the full squad, and coaching staff for demonstrating incredible dedication and a winning mindset in both playoff matches,” Kobiashvili stated. ![]() ![]() Armenia’s Narek Manasyan (92kg) won Armenia’s second silver medal at the European Boxing Championships 2024 on April 28.
