Pashinyan, Rubio discuss Armenia-U.S. strategic partnership

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation to discuss strategic cooperation and regional developments.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the two sides addressed matters related to the Armenia-U.S. strategic partnership, along with several issues on the regional agenda. Pashinyan briefed Rubio on the negotiation process that has led to the agreement of a draft treaty titled “Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

Pashinyan emphasized that the draft is now ready for signing.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Temi Bruce stated that the sides discussed shared objectives as strategic allies. Secretary Rubio welcomed the progress on the peace deal with Azerbaijan, stressing that lasting peace is essential to reducing regional tensions and ensuring security and prosperity in the South Caucasus.

It was also stressed that any new escalation in the region is unacceptable.

Both parties agreed to continue high-level dialogue between Armenia and the United States.
