Parliamentarians Hovik Aghazaryan and Taron Margaryan have been stripped of their parliamentary immunity, according to the head of the National Assembly’s counting commission, Narek Babayan, who announced the results of a secret ballot.
The motion to revoke the immunity of independent MP Hovik Aghazaryan passed with 65 votes in favor and 2 against.
For Taron Margaryan, representing the “I Have Honor” parliamentary faction, the request received 67 votes in favor and none against.
The Civil Contract faction had previously announced its support for the motions submitted by the Prosecutor General of Armenia to revoke the immunity of MPs Hovik Aghazaryan and Taron Margaryan. This was confirmed in a briefing by the faction’s leader, Hayk Konjoryan.
On March 26, during a parliamentary session, Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan submitted a request for the initiation of two criminal cases against Hovik Aghazaryan.
At the March 27 session, she presented another motion regarding Taron Margaryan.
