Ombudsman reports systemic data protection issues in Armenia

Armenia’s Human Rights Defender has published an urgent report revealing that multiple systemic problems persist in the protection of personal data across the country. The findings are based on monitoring carried out throughout 2024, according to the Office of the Human Rights Defender.

Despite the urgency of the issue, the report states that no effective measures have yet been introduced to address these challenges. Given the urgent need for action, the Ombudsman released a special report titled “On Systemic Issues in the Field of Personal Data Protection in the Republic of Armenia.”

The document outlines the monitoring results, identifies key issues, and offers targeted recommendations to improve the situation.

The Human Rights Defender emphasized the importance of immediate government intervention to guarantee the protection of individuals’ personal data in line with both international and domestic legal standards.
