World War II veterans living in Armenia have been offered the chance to attend major commemorative events in Moscow and St. Petersburg, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany. The plan to invite these veterans was announced by the Russian Ambassador to Armenia, Sergey Kopyrkin.

“We are doing everything to ensure this date is commemorated with dignity in Armenia, and we greatly value the cooperation between us in preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War and the heroism of the peoples of the Soviet Union,” Kopyrkin said

According to the ambassador, Russia has a rich lineup of events planned for the occasion. The key factor, he noted, is whether the veterans—many of whom survived the horrors of war—will be able to attend in good health. The Russian Embassy is closely coordinating all arrangements with the Armenian side, reports Sputnik Armenia.

Commemorative activities are also scheduled in Armenia. In Yerevan, the traditional Memory Garden campaign will take place again, where participants will plant trees in honor of Soviet citizens who died during the war. In addition, the city will host the “Immortal Regiment” march, with residents carrying portraits of their relatives who served in the Great Patriotic War.
