MoD reports sporadic fire, no targeted attacks in Syunik

PanARMENIAN.Net - Sporadic and non-targeted gunfire is occasionally recorded along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Armenia's Ministry of Defense said in response to reports of shootings from the Syunik region, as reported by RFE/RL.

"In cases of significant, targeted violations of the ceasefire, we issue official statements," the Defense Ministry noted.

Despite international calls and expectations for a peace agreement, gunfire continues along the border. On the night of April 5, gunfire was again heard in the village of Khnatsakh, attributed to Azerbaijani forces.

At the end of last month, Azerbaijani forces once again opened fire toward Khnatsakh, damaging a residential house. The Ministry of Defense later published a photo showing a bullet casing on the ground and a window damaged by gunfire.

The ministry added: "When there are targeted shootings, such as the one on March 31 toward a residential house in Khnatsakh village, Syunik province, the Ministry of Defense properly reports the incident," emphasizing that "the defense ministry follows a clear information policy based on various circumstances and analyses."

During the same period of ongoing frontline gunfire, Azerbaijan's Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov held a meeting to discuss the operational situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. According to his statement, he accused the Armenian side of regular shelling of Azerbaijani units. Hasanov instructed subordinates to be prepared for 'operational response to any provocation.'

Official Yerevan has repeatedly rejected Baku's claims that the Armenian side violates the ceasefire, calling them unfounded.
