There is not much benefit from just electric energy exportMay 28, 2009 - 17:10 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Electric energy produced in Armenia must promote development of country's strategic industries, told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter Ara Nranyan, advisor in economy issues of ARF Dashnaktsutyun, member of the RA National Assembly and member of Armenian delegation to the BSEC Parliamentary Assembly.According to him, there are two countries in the Black Sea region, Armenia and Russia exporting primary product, rest of the countries import that product. According to Mr. Nranyan, regional countries has different structure of energy industries, and the structure of energy industry of Armenia differs from the average world showings. In particular, while more than 80 per cent of electric energy is generated by traditional sources, as coal and gas, in Armenia more than 40 per cent of electric energy is produced through renewable sources and mainly via hydro powers, some 40 per cent is generated by nuclear power plant and only 20 per cent is produced on the base of hydrocarbon material. "It means that Armenia attained and surpassed the level, desirable by all environmentalists and economists, so Armenia ensures high efficiency in using its renewable resources," he said. According to Mr. Nranyan, Armenia, as other member countries of BSEC Russia, Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine have nuclear power plant. Turkey strives to construct the nuclear power," he said. There are countries, exporting up to 90 per cent of its energy (energy export of Bulgaria and Romania lies between 70 and 90 per cent). There is an opinion in Armenia, that it is better to export electric energy and constantly increasing electric energy production, taking as granted the fact that Azerbaijan exports oil, Mr.Nranyan said. According to him, there is no benefit from just electric energy export, which will promote development of certain energy enterprises and budget replenishment, but will not create jobs and conditions for development of enterprises. "We regard this as a wrong way, since exporting electric energy, the country helps other countries to develop power-intensive industries," he explained. According to Mr. Nranyan, power-intensive industries are strategic. "We suggest to develop those power-consuming industries in Armenia," he said adding that the country only will benefit from it and this will enable the country to develop industrial production and become more advanced, that countries not seeking to develop such complex industries as metallurgy. It is necessary to elaborate the energy sector development strategy and initially export only energy excess, it will enable further to develop energy consuming industries of Armenia," Ara Nranyan concluded. ![]() ![]() Yerevan has dismissed Turkey’s demand to shut down the Armenian nuclear power plant as “inappropriate”. Armenia will loan 2.9 billion drams to Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh), according to a draft government decision. Kerobyan has said that for the first time in the history of Armenia, the volume of foreign direct investments amounted to about $1 billion. ![]() ![]() Partner news | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
