EU and Council of Europe observers arrives in YerevanMay 28, 2009 - 20:42 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia's vice prime minister and minister of territorial administration Armen Gevorkyan received the delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe and EU Committee of the Regions arrived in Armenia to observe forthcoming City Council of Elders elections, press office of the RA ministry of territorial administration reports. According to the vice prime minister, although only a third of Armenia's constituency live in Yerevan, but the event has the all-public importance, since the main political and economical life of the country is concentrated in the capital. Proportional representation elections of local government will be held for the first time in Armenia and their successful experience will be projected to all other Yerevan's communities, Mr.Gevorkyan said. He also expressed hope, that opposition will become represented in the City Council of Elders, which will make its work more transparent and efficient. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
