Historian: genocide chain still not broken

Bernard Coulie, former dean of Armenian Studies at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, believes that the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century is just one link in a chain of violence that has yet to be broken.

According to Armenpress, he stated that April 24 is important not only for Armenians but for all those who stand for justice.

“What happened to Armenians in the early 20th century is part of a chain that, unfortunately, has not ended. The denial of the Armenian Genocide by several countries, including Turkey, the condition of Armenian monuments in Turkish territory, the removal of Armenian presence from Artsakh, the displacement of Armenians, and the erasure of traces of their existence on ancestral lands—all these reflect the same logic that prevailed in 1915–1916. This is why April 24 is so significant—not only for Armenians but for everyone who supports justice,” he said.
