Armenian authorities tried to conceal reality from Saakashvili

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian authorities tried to conceal the protest action from visiting Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, said Kiro Manoyan, ARFD Bureau's Hay Dat and Political Office director.

"I do not know, why they wanted to screen the reality," he told a news conference today. "Police's actions were senseless, since the citizens were not aggressive."

A number of social and political organizations planned a protest rally in front of Armenia Mariott hotel, where Mikhail Saakashvili was staying during his official visit to Yerevan. Yet, the police violently broke up the rally, forcing rally participants to the side of Northern Avenue and Tigran Mets Street.

Rally participants aimed to voice Armenian society's demands to Georgian President. The demands included: legal status provision to Armenian Apostolic Church, maintaining and improving tutoring quality in Armenian schools of Georgia, founding of Armenian-Georgian University.

"The police could be more respectful to the residents of Yerevan," Mr. Manoyan said.
