GEORGIA TOOK PAINFULLY AKHALKALKI REGION ADMINISTRATION HEAD STATEMENT AUTONOMY COULD HELP JAVAHETIA TO OVERCOME ECONOMIC PROBLEMS

PanARMENIAN.Net - «Javakhk» public movement representative's speech stating proposal on giving self-government or autonomy to Samtshe-Javakheita region, south of which is populated by Armenians caused different responses. While having speech televised by «Rustavi-2» Television Company, the head of the body of the local government of Akhalkalaki city made a statement that autonomy of Javakhetia and self-dependence for making decisions will allow improving economic situation of the region. As «Arminfo» reports referring to «BS-press» agency, «XXI century» faction chairman Vakhtang Bochorishvili expressed concern upon the statement at the meeting of the board of the Georgian parliament. He suggested convening special meeting of the parliament for the consideration of the Javakhetia issue. The deputy suggested to invite the state minister, the foreign minister, the heads of law-enforcement bodies to participate in the closed meeting and to consider Javakhetia issue, fix their position and introduce it to the President for making a definite decision. According to Bochorishvili, Armenian government controls the Armenian Diaspora in Georgia and such statements are not made without Yerevan's knowledge. Chairman of the Georgian parliament Nino Burjanadze had a speech stating that she was against the calling of the meeting on the Javakhetia issue. According to her, such statements of representatives of public organizations do not correspond to the attitude of the whole population of the region and do not have a key role in the situation in Akhlkalaki. Burjanadze noted that in the course of her recent visit to Yerevan, she had made certain that all the leadership of Armenia emphasized the importance of having good relations with Georgia and the leadership of the country was not interested in tense situation in Javakhetia.
