US PRESIDENT SUGGESTS NOT TO INCLUDE ARMENIA IN LIST OF COUNTRIES TO WHICH JECKSON-VENIK AMENDMENT APPLIED

PanARMENIAN.Net - The US President George Bush appealed to the Congress leadership with a request to repeal the Jeckson-Venik Amendment to the 1974 law on trade toward Armenia and other CIS eight countries. The amendment passed in 1974 stipulates sanctions (trade restricting) toward the countries where, according to the official Washington's opinion, human rights are violated. After the USSR collapse, the sanctions were imposed on the CIS countries. Last year Kirgizstan and Georgia were not included in the list of the countries to which the amendment applies.
