Gerry Connolly: US will “jeopardize its interests” by recognizing Armenian Genocide

PanARMENIAN.Net - We have no doubts over 1915 tragic events in Ottoman Empire; still, over 90 years have passed since and today Turkey is a reliable partner to US, Congressman from Virginia Gerry Connolly stated.

“US military base is stationed in Turkey; Turkey assists us in our operations in Afghanistan. US will “jeopardize its interests” by recognizing Armenian Genocide, which would be an irresponsible step to take,” Gerry Connolly stressed during the hearing of U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The Armenian Genocide resolution

The resolution affirming the U.S. record on the Armenian Genocide (H.Res.252) was formally introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Reps. Adam Schiff (D.-CA), George Radanovich (R.-CA), Frank Pallone, Jr. (D.-NJ), and Mark Kirk (R.-Ill). On March 4, 2010 it was adopted with a 22-21 vote by the House Committee on Foreign Relations. A similar resolution was introduced in the Senate.
