WASHINGTON WORRIED BY HUMAN RIGHT VIOLATIONS IN AZERBAIJAN

PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. representative in OSCE David Johnson, appearing at OSCE Permanent Council sitting said the White House was worried by the human rights situation in Azerbaijan. He thanked the Government of the country for contribution to the global fight against terror. At the same time he specially noted the United States consider as before that the events of September 11 emphasize the necessity for securing human rights protection, the superiority of law and development of civil society. Johnson said the case of Janmirza Mirzoyev, who was accused of committing a murder, was an example of human rights violation in Azerbaijan. U.S. representative in OSCE is convinced the inquest and the trial on this case "were held breaking the international norms and without appropriate legal proceedings." We call on Azeri Government to undertake all possible steps to strengthen the power of the law in Azerbaijan in compliance with the obligations to OSCE, formulated in the Concluding Act and other OSCE documents, as well as in accordance with other international commitments," - Johnson stated.
