EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT REJECTS SECTION STIPULATING THE CLAIM TO RECOGNIZE FACT OF GENOCIDE OF ARMENIANS PRESENTED TO TURKEY

PanARMENIAN.Net - Yesterday the report regarding Turkey's joining the European union was discussed at the European parliament. As we have informed, French deputy of « Christian democrats» Alan Lamassur has suggested to include the Section, stipulating the setting up the claim to recognize the fact of the 1915 genocide of Armenians to Turkey, as a prior term for the joining of this country the EU, in the report. The deputies rejected the suggestion. It should be reminded that earlier a similar section, introduced by deputies Sharl Paskua and Andre Briye was also rejected. The resolution passed by the European Parliament states that «EU supports the activities of Turkish and Armenian scientists regarding the evaluation of the historic past». Obviously, they mean the activities of Armenian-Turkish commission for reconciliation where not historians but politicians and political scientists work.
