EUROPEAN COUNCIL EXPERTS ESTABLISHED THAT, IN CONTRAST TO ARMENIA, THERE ARE POLITICAL PRISONERS IN AZERBAIJAN

PanARMENIAN.Net - In the report, published by the European council experts, it is stated that there are political prisoners in Azerbaijan. There are not any political prisoners in Armenia, where the situation was examined by the same experts. As «Turan» Azerbaijani agency informs, famous experts on the human rights, professors Shtefan Trekhtel, Evert Alkema and Alexander Arabajiyev used objective criteria to find out who has to be considered a political prisoners. While commenting the published data, the European Council Secretary General Walter Shvimmer stated «Even having a single political prisoner is too much. This problem does not have to exist in a country that is a European Council member. Azerbaijani leadership has to consider its obligations regarding discharge or reconsideration of the court decisions regarding political prisoners», has noted the Secretary General of the CE. «Those who speak about the political prisoners in Azerbaijan show subjectivism», has stated the head of the department of foreign relation of the president administration of Azerbaijan Novruz Mamedov. According to Mamedov, the Azerbaijan's position regarding this question will be invariable, «There are political prisoners in Azerbaijan, that were condemned for criminal offences».
