EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT INTENDS TO DEMAND FROM ANKARA TO RECOGNIZE THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE AND ESTABLISH DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH YEREVANOctober 25, 2001 - 22:59 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The European Parliament intends to demand from Ankara to recognize the Armenian genocide of 1915 and establish diplomatic relations with Yerevan. As reported by "Arminfo" agency, vote on this question will take place today. Yesterday hearings of the report on Turkey were held in the European Parliament. The document was prepared by Deputy Allan Lamassur representing the right wing. As it is known, French Conservative Deputy Charles Pascua stated about the importance modifications of the report, in which he called on Turkey to recognize the Armenian genocide and support recognition of genocide throughout the world. In another amendment, of which is Charles Pascua is the author again, he calls on the Turkish authorities to establish diplomatic relations with Armenia and thus to play an important role in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement. At the same time, Turkey has to end up the embargo against Armenia. As reported by Baku sources making reference to a high rank Turkish official, passing such an amendment will worsen the relations between Turkey and EU.
