ECCLESIASTICAL LEADERS OF ARMENIA AND AZERBAIJAN WILL POSSIBLY MEET IN BAKU

The meeting of the ecclesiastical leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia mediated by Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Aleksy the Second will take place during the next two months. According to information given by CNA agency, the suggestion of the Russian Patriarch, which was made during his visit to Baku in May, was supported by the Azerbaijanians. According to Head of the Ecclesiastical Board of Muslims of the Caucasus sheik-ul-Islam Gaji Allakhshyukyur Pashazade, after obtaining the official consent of Catholicos Garegin the Second, the Russian Orthodox Church has proceeded to preparation of the meeting protocol. At the same time, both the concrete date and the place of the talks of the ecclesiastical leaders of the three countries are not determined yet. According to A.Pashazade's opinion, the negotiations with Garegin the Second can be held not only in Moscow, but also in Baku. "Of course we usually meet in the Russian capital, - he noted, - but this time Patriatch Aleksy the Second has suggested to change the place of the meeting". It is expected that the ecclesiastical leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan will discuss the prospects of the Karabakh conflict settlement and also the problem of release of hostages and prisoners of war.
