Artak Shakaryan: Afghanistan is main concern for U.S.

Turkologist Artak Shakaryan said that there had been great expectations from the U.S. Congress and Nancy Pelosi, however, they have not justified.

“Pelosi could complete her career and be best remembered by Americans for putting the Armenian Genocide Resolution to vote. However, it has not happened,” Shakaryan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

Nevertheless, according to him, the event is not of great importance for Armenians.

“December 22 was not a defeat for Armenians, likewise March 4, the day when H. Res. 252 was adopted, was not a victory. It is evident that currently Afghanistan is the main concern for the U.S., while Turkey and Azerbaijan are key transit ways for military power projection. All the other matters are not considered. There is another circumstance – the Republican Party, which makes majority in the House of Representatives, mainly consists of representatives of the military business-elite. However, the U.S. will take certain actions for the Armenian Genocide recognition by 2015,” the expert said.
