KARABAKH SETTLEMENT HAS GAINED GLOBAL IMPORTANCE, ARMENIAN MINISTER BELIEVESApril 20, 2001 - 18:59 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - YEREVAN, April 20. /Mediamax/. "I am involved in Karabakh negotiations for 8 years and can testify that the existing level of cooperation and mutual understanding between the mediators is unprecedented," Armenian FM Vardan Oskanian said speaking by "Armenia" TV Thursday. The Minister noted that competition between the mediators that was obvious several years ago was hindering significantly the peace process. The Armenian FM expressed his viewpoint that the Karabakh problem had gained a global importance and had become a means for cooperation of countries involved in settlement. According to him, at the meeting of Kocharian and Bush held after the negotiations in Key West, it was noted "indirectly" that Karabakh settlement process provided Russia and USA with a real chance for joint activity. The fact that it was exactly the U.S. representative Carey Cavanagh to inform about the intention of the mediators to start consultations with authorities of Iran, can testify that the Karabakh settlement may become the sphere where Washington and Teheran start to cooperate, Vardan Oskanian says. --0-- Top stories The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire.
