RA Police: 9,000 people participated in opposition rally in Armenia![]() March 17, 2011 - 20:50 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The RA Police said that around 9,000 people participated in the Armenian opposition rally near Matenadaran in Yerevan. "Despite policemen's calls to maintain public order, a group of opposition representatives blocked Mashtots Avenue-Koryun Street crossroad, creating problems for public transport. The rally was over at 06:30pm, after which the rally organizers headed for Liberty Square," the RA Police reported. According to the opposition, the rally brought together 30,000 people. The police allowed Armenian opposition rally participants to enter Liberty Square. As PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent reported from the scene, Armenian National Congress coordinator Levon Zurabyan urged rally participants to maintain discipline. The police allowed the demonstrators' entrance after negotiations between Zurabyan and Deputy Chief of Armenian Police Alexander Afyan. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire.
