RA Ombudsman expects soonest release of imprisoned participants of March 2008 eventsMay 24, 2011 - 17:24 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On May 24, Yerevan hosted a discussion organized by Civilitas Foundation with participation of Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan. Referring to domestic political processes, Andreasyan expressed hope that those who were imprisoned with respect to the March 1-2, 2008, events will be released soon. According to him, any similar step is positively estimated by the public and “may lead to positive developments.” Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan offered the National Assembly to announce amnesty dated the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence. The President’s suggestion is based on the RA Constitution and Law on National Assembly’s Regulations. Most likely, the Armenian parliament will discuss the suggestion on May 25.
