PROJECT OF CONSTITUTIONAL REFORMS CAN BE SUBMITTED TO NATIONAL REFERENDUM BY THE END OF 2001

PanARMENIAN.Net - 17.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The President of Armenia presented the process of works on introducing amendments to the Constitution of the country at his yesterday's meeting with the leaders of the parliamentary groups and factions of the National Assembly, said member of the political council of the Republican party of Armenia, deputy of the Armenian parliament Gagik Minasian in the interview to Mediamax.

Mr. Minasian said that constitutional reforms suppose equal distribution of authorities among the power branches. The parliamentarian particularly mentioned that they map out to expand authorities of the legislative body of the country and to reduce the President's power.

In Minasian's words, in early 2001 the whole package of constitutional reforms will be ready to be submitted to the National Assembly of Armenia on a legislative initiative.

"I think we'll have a complete document by the end of 2001 to be submitted to national referendum", Mr. Minasian said. -0-
