SPEAKER OF ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT REJECTS ANY POSSIBLE NORMALIZATION OF RELATIONS WITH TURKEY WITHOUT SOLUTION OF PROBLEM OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE OF 1915

PanARMENIAN.Net - 08.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "Turkey is neighbor of Armenia and the both sides are interested in development of economic cooperation. However, I can state that there will not be a full scale normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations without solution of the problem with the Armenian Genocide in 1915."

This statement was made by Armen Khachatrian, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, in an interview to the journalist of the American "Boston Globe" Miles Pamper. The full text of the interview was published today in "Hayastani Hanrapetoutyun" parliamentary daily.

Speaker also said that it would be better if Turkey followed suit of Germany, which recognized the Holocaust.

Responding the replica of the American journalist that the US does not like the fact of existence of the Russian military bases on the Armenian territory, the speaker of the Armenian parliament said: "And we do not like being unprotected neighboring with such a militarized country as Turkey." --0--
