Baku outraged with foreign media's recognising Artsakh Republic

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry “investigates information” published in Nezavisimaya Gazeta Russian newspaper, which specifies Nagorno Karabakh Rebublic as an independent state, 1news.az reported citing the spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Elman Abdullayev.

“The Foreign Ministry instructed Moscow-based Azerbaijani Embassy to Russia to inform the newspaper editorial staff on the resentment caused by the publication,” Abdullayev said.

On September 1, the newspaper released an interview with Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan.

As Azeri Foreign Ministry claims, beside reference to NKR as an independent state, the interview contains a number of false facts.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
