UNITY PARLIAMENTARY BLOC STILL EXISTS

PanARMENIAN.Net - 10.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Armenian parliamentarian and the chairman of Orinats Yerkir party Arthur Baghdassarian stated in his interview to MEDIAMAX that during October 9 meeting of the representatives of seven deputy factions and groups represented in the Armenian parliament (Republican Party, Stability, Dashnaktsoutsyun, National-Democratic Party, Union of Constitutional Right, Orinats Yerkir and People's Party) with President and Prime-Minister of Armenia it was announced that the Unity bloc of the Armenian parliament will continue its activity.

According to Baghdassarian, a critical situation formed in the Armenian parliament as of resignation of the Speaker Armen Khachatrian is considered by "Orinats Yerkir" from the political point of view only, without any personal context. "We consider that the Armenian parliament works inefficiently and multiple economic and social problems are pure evidence of it," Baghdassarian underlined.

Speaking about the role of President Khocharian in regulation of the parliamentary crisis the chairman of the party said that according to the 40th article of the Armenian Constitution President is obliged to assure a normal activity of legislative, executive and judicial powers of the state. In light of this, the President appealed to the Constitutional Court using his rights.

According to the Armenian parliamentarian the idea of reunification of the Unity bloc is very important from the point of view of grappling the problems. --0--
