TELECOMMUNICATION MONOPOLIST OF ARMENIA HAVING LEGAL PROCEEDINGS WITH GOVERNMENT

PanARMENIAN.Net - Monopolist of telecommunication network of Armenia "ArmenTel" company has instituted a suit at London International Arbitrary Court against the Armenian government. As reported by the press service of the ministry of justice of Armenia, OTE Greek company holding 90% of "ArmenTel" shares has simultaneously brought a suit on payment of damages, which had resulted from the government breaking the license on company activities. Specifically, "ArmenTel" states it has suffered losses due to authorizing IP-telephoning in Armenia, while in compliance with the license the company is the monopolist in all telecommunication spheres. At the same time government officials say they are confident they will gain a victory at court, as there is irrefutable proof that "ArmenTel" does not fulfill its investment and communication quality obligations. It should be reminded that the Armenian government has launched a process of depriving "ArmenTel" of the communication monopoly by introducing a number of bills before the Parliament. Government representatives consider that by appealing to the international court "ArmenTel" is trying to cease that process.
