ONLY THREE ARMENIANS IN NEW GEORGIAN PARLIAMENT

PanARMENIAN.Net - In accordance to the list of the parliament members published yesterday, Armenian population of Georgia is only presented in the legislative body by three deputies, these being Hayk Melkonian, Hamlet Shakhbekian and Enzel Mkoian elected by the majority system. None of the Armenians nominated in the parties' lists was elected to the parliament. Meanwhile, three of the four candidates of Azeri origin entered the parliament by the party lists. As ex-deputy Van Baybudian told A-info agency, neither governmental nor opposition blocs provided Armenians with the opportunity to pass by their lists. As compared to the previous convocation, the representation of the national minorities in today's parliament decreased three times. To note, national minorities comprising over 30% of the whole population of the country are presented in the Georgian parliament by the mentioned above 7 deputies, what is only 3% of the total number of the deputies (235).
