French MPs unite amid Turkey’s threats

PanARMENIAN.Net - Political forces of France united in face of Turkey’s threats against parliament members, particularly the initiator of the bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial Valerie Boyer.

Both members of Union for a Popular Movement and Socialist Party conveyed solidarity to Boyer, Libération reported.

“Though do not share Boyer’s political views, I condemn threats and intimidation against her,” leader of the moderate center-left Radical Party of the Left, Jean-Michel Baylet said.

From the start of the week, author of the Genocide bill Valerie Boyer was repeatedly threatened by Turkey, with her website hacked.

On December 22, French National Assembly passed the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial. The draft law envisages a year in jail and a fine of 45,000 euros for those who publicly deny the Armenian Genocide in France.
