While the world remembers Whitney Houston from afar, those closest to her will gather Saturday, Feb 18, at a private funeral to say goodbye. They come together at New Hope Baptist Church, where Houston wowed the congregation with her powerful voice even as a young girl, AP reports.
The service marks exactly one week after the 48-year-old Houston - one of music's all-time biggest stars - was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel in California. A cause of death has yet to be determined.
According to TMZ, Houston's daughter has viewed her mother's body ahead of the funeral service which will be beamed live on the internet.
The singer's mother, Cissy Houston, and daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, were joined by relatives and close friends for the private viewing at Whigham Funeral Home in Newark, New Jersey. Houston's cousin Dionne Warwick and music executive Clive Davis were also in attendance.
Balloons, flowers and mementos were placed outside Newark's New Hope Baptist Church, Houston's childhood place of worship, where the funeral will be held at noon.
Hundreds of fans were camped outside the funeral home as family arrived.
The only video camera allowed inside the funeral in New Jersey will be provided by The Associated Press.
