Status quo in Karabakh conflict will be maintained, expert says

PanARMENIAN.Net - Parliamentary elections will not stir any interest in Russia; presidential race will be much more significant, political scientist Stepan Grigoryan said.

“Russia understands perfectly well that that whoever is elected Armenian president, he will support Russia in any case. Armenia simply has no other option until its state border with Turkey remains closed,” he said at a press conference in Yerevan.

“I believe Russia will not interfere with Armenia’s domestic policy,” the expert said.

He also touched upon the issue of Nagorno Karabakh saying Putin is a realist and understands that this conflict cannot be resolved quickly.

“Status quo in Karabakh conflict will be maintained, and Putin will not accelerate this process artificially,”Grigoryan said mentioning the elections will be held roughly the same way they were organized in Russia, with one difference: unlike Russia, Armenia has no serious administrative resources.

“Our only resource is the democracy, and the political elite in Armenia must understand it,” he emphasized.

“We have no right for serious blunders during elections; they won’t forgive it,” Grigoryan concluded.
