AZERBAIJANIS ASK THE HELP OF ARMENIANS

PanARMENIAN.Net - On Monday thousands of inhabitants of Azeri villages of the Marneuli region of Georgia, which has a common border with Armenia, closed the railway and the motorway that connect the two countries. The main demand was to restore immediately the supply of the power energy. It is already a month that this region populated with Azeri is short of power energy despite the fact that the 85 percent of population has paid all its debts for energy consumption. One of the leaders of the Azeris of Georgia, head of the “Heirat” national movement Alibala Askerov said that this has a political background. According to him, this is the result of the policy against the Azeri people conducted by certain forces in Tbilisi. According to him, they have nothing against Armenians (though as a result of their initiative, first of all the Armenian businessmen suffered). In contrary, the population of the Marneuli region hopes that Armenia will save them from darkness.

We shall remind that Yerevan has undertaken to supply the regions of the neighboring country populated with Armenians with energy and they are in very good conditions now. The Azerbaijanis think that Armenians should help them also. “If the Georgian companies are not able to supply the population with energy, the Azeri have nothing else to do but to but energy from Armenia,” he said in an interview with Baku journalists.

We shall note that in the beginning of the year there was an intergovernmental agreement supposing supply of the energy produced in Armenia to Georgia. On the basis of this agreement, the energy enterprises may conclude contracts with the authorized companies. The Armenian party has already confirmed its readiness to do energy supplies in case if there is such a request. However, in Tbilisi they preferred to overcome the crisis themselves, which makes us think about political background. As a result, suffer the citizens of the country obliged to organize such actions of protest.

In Yerevan the request of the Azeri population of Georgia caused understanding and sympathy. The Armenian specialists of energy sphere are not against supplying the Azeri population of Georgia with energy. Moreover, the existing political confrontation is not an obstacle for supplies of energy. Yerevan is ready to cooperate in this issue and to discuss any business offer supposing strengthening of the regional cooperation.
