GEORGIAN LEADERSHIP CONSIDERS QUESTION OF SENDING SPECIAL TROOPS TO MARNEULI REGION MAINLY POPULATED BY AZERIS

PanARMENIAN.Net - Mass actions are held by Azeris in Georgia, who protest against Georgian authorities executing "punitive actions, persecution and arrests" against them. As reported by Zerkalo Baku newspaper referring to leader of "Geyrat" movement Zumrud Gurbanly, over 300 Azeris at present are gathered in front of the building of the Office of the Prosecutor General in Tbilisi, protesting against recent "illegal arrests" of Azeris. Mass actions are also held in front of the building of the President's Administration, demanding to release Zaza Bayramov, the "illegally arrested chief of the police department, which had been dealing with the border settlements near the Red bridge." According to the source, residents of a number of villages of the Marneuli region also held a protest action July 5. Representatives of the regional authorities barred the way of the procession arranged by them and did not allow their advancement towards Tbilisi. "People express protest against the authorities, which for 8 months have been deceiving their expectations to get back their lands, given to various Georgian companies, natural and juridical persons. Thus, Azeris are deprived of the right to land ownership," Gurbanly said. He stated that in compliance with the information he possesses, the issue of sending special troops to the Marneuli region, mainly populated by Azeris, is discussed in Tbilisi. The Georgian authorities have decided to remove those Azeris, who hold high posts and come against the policy of deportation of their compatriots, the Baku newspaper writes.
