U.S. ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE HOPED IN A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH HEYDAR ALIYEV REPEAL OF SANCTIONS AGAINST AZERBAIJAN WOULD SUCCEED

PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. Administration hopes the Senate would confer the country President George Bush the power to suspend the Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, which bans Washington to render direct aid to Azerbaijan. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage stated it today during a telephone conversation with President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, "Arminfo" agency reports making reference to "AzerTag" Baku agency. In the course of the talk Richard Armitage familiarized President Heydar Aliyev with the bill, envisaging the opportunity of suspension of Section 907. It is reported that the sides exchanged opinions on some items of the bill and discussed a number of its provisions. The Azerbaijani President expressed his understanding, made proposals and disagreed with some individual formulae. The American diplomat informed Aliyev about the process of discussion concerning the Section held in the Senate at the time.
