ARMENIA IS COMMITTED TO DEMOCRACY, ROBERT KOCHARIAN SAID

PanARMENIAN.Net - YEREVAN, May 10. /Mediamax/. "Armenia is committed to democracy", President of Armenia Robert Kocharian said during his opening address at the business forum "Armenia Investor Conference 2001", which began Thursday in New York Plaza Hotel.

"Throughout the past years we have undergone many tests and challenges to our young democracy. However, none of the pitfalls and obstacles on this difficult road shattered the resolve of the Armenian public to live in a free and open society," Robert Kocharian said.

As the special correspondent of Mediamax reports from New York, President Kocharian assured that Armenia will continue its journey towards full integration in the family of democratic nations. "With the accession to the Council of Europe we have registered a sufficient level of progress in establishing the democratic foundations. While not everything is yet as perfect, the obvious progress cannot be denied. Public life in Armenia is becoming more reliable and predictable," Robert Kocharian stressed. --0--
