EQUIPMENT FOR COUNTERACTION TO THE SPREADING OF MASS DESTRUCTION WEAPONS TO ARRIVE IN YEREVAN FROM USA THIS MAY

PanARMENIAN.Net - YEREVAN, March 19. /Mediamax/. Special equipment for counteraction to smuggling and spreading of mass destruction weapons will arrive in Armenia from the United States in May 2001, a source in the U.S. Embassy told Mediamax.

After the National Assembly of Armenia approves the agreement on "Cooperation in the sphere of counteraction to the spreading of mass destruction weapons between the governments of Armenia and the USA", signed in July 2000 in Washington, both countries will exchange diplomatic notes and the shipment of equipment and training will begin, the source said.

On 24 July 2000, during the visit of the Armenian Defense Minister to Washington, the agreement on "Cooperation in the sphere of counteraction to the spreading of mass destruction weapons between the governments of Armenia and the USA" was signed. The U.S. Defense Minister William Cohen stated then that within the framework of the agreement the United States will allot to Armenia $300.000, which will be used for staff training and for the purchase of necessary equipment. --0--
