FRENCH PRESIDENT THINKS THERE IS A POSITIVE ADVANCE IN KARABAKH PEACE PROCESS

PanARMENIAN.Net - YEREVAN, March 6. /Mediamax/. "There is a positive advance in the Karabakh peace process", President of France Jacques Chirac declared at a press conference assessing the results of the talks between the presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and France, which was held Monday in Paris.

As RIA "Novosti" reported, Chirac said that "the meeting bore a constructive character and proceeded in the atmosphere of trust, and the sides realized the importance of Karabakh dispute settlement for the peaceful development of the Transcaucasian region". Jacques Chirac assured that the Armenian and Azeri sides are "supported by France in all the steps of the heads of neighboring states for the soonest resolution of the prolonged opposition".

"France supports the friendly relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, and they must be put in the basis of Karabakh conflict settlement", French President stressed.

He voiced his confidence that "under certain circumstances, the ground for which is already cultivated, the seeds of peaceful resolution of the dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Nagorno Karabakh should by the end of this year give shoots which will later grow into mutually acceptable political steps for Baku and Yerevan." --0--
